Searching for a substrate on which to build FerretBrain, I trawled through several of the many Python web frameworks available. Most I found far too heavyweight for a simple web-zine, and some were interesting but couldn't be installed on my hosting account.

Viverra was originally a mod_python wrapper, smoothing out some of the server specifics with regard to generating and returning pages. As it gained features and became more generally useful, I decided it could be separated out -- hence Viverra was born as a separate framework.
